Hiking in the Hohe Tauern National Park
National Park Hohe Tauern offers a multitude of hiking possibilities in all categories. You can choose a relaxing evening stroll to the Stappitz lake or you can take long hikes over the mountain tops for a few days and stay overnight in one of the scenic mountain huts. The Ankogel cable car and the train line that connects Mallnitz with the Gastein valley allows you to do long distance hikes with the option of taking the train back.
The following hiking tours are a selection of the overal possible hikes in the breathtakingly beautiful world of the Hohe Tauern mountain range.

Short hikes (up to 3 hours)
Gasthof Gutenbrunn (Tavern)
- even and flat hike
- approx. 1 hour from the Alpenrose
- Walk the flat and even path from the Alpenrose to the entrance of the Tauern valley
Schwussner hut
- easy alp’s hike
- approx. 1 ½ hours from the Alpenrose
- Walk from the Alpenrose to Stappitz lake and continue through the Seebach valley to the Schwussner hut
Gasthof Hochalmblick (Middle station of the Ankogel railway)
- Mountain hike
- approx. 2 hours from the Alpenrose
- Walk from the Alpenrose to the Hochalmblick inn using the skiing slope, start directly under the middle station of the Ankogel railway.
Jamnig Alm
- easy alp’s hike
- approx. 3 hours from the Alpenrose or 30 min. from the parking lot of Jamnig’s Alp
- Walk from Alpenrose to the Gutenbrunn Inn, cross the Tauern valley until you reach Jamnig’ Alp
Hagener Hut
- demanding mountain climb
- approx. 2 ½ hours from the parking lot of Jamnig’ Alp
- Walk from Jamnig’s parking lot to the Jaminig’s Alp all the way up to Jamnig’s Hut – you can also choose a combination and start from the Alpenrose hiking upt to Jamnig’s Alp.
